Donny Deutsch Guest Professor Argues that Duke Rape Case Being Analyzed in the Wrong Way

Syracuse, NY. (PRWEB) April 23, 2006 -- Dr. Boyce Watkins, Syracuse University Professor and recent guest of "The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch" states that people are missing the key issues behind the Duke rape investigation.

"People are focusing on whether or not someone's penis was inserted into someone's vagina. But there is so much more going on in this situation," says Watkins, who also made a recent appearance on Hannity and Colmes. "There are many issues related to racism, the treatment of women, and how the privileges of wealth and athletic ability preclude some from certain degrees of scrutiny. The people were not protesting the rape as much as they were protesting the climate at Duke University."

Dr. Watkins, who has lectured at universities around the world and is also the author of "What if George Bush were a Black Man?" states that the lack of attention being paid to diversity on college campuses is what leads to there being an environment of racial tension. "The universities must understand that the tornado is created by the climate, not the other way around," says Watkins, who is the first black Finance Professor in the history of Syracuse University. "Many of these elitist universities hire about as many black professors each year as the Ku Klux Klan. Then they wonder 'When did our campus get this racial tension?'"

Dr. Watkins, who co-hosted a financial segment last week with Michael Eric Dyson, argues that this situation provides opportunities to address the campus environment, as well as the treatment of women. Says Watkins, "You have many crimes being committed on college campuses, with the primary suspect being Jack Daniels. People have yet to address the gluttonous, embarrasing behavior that is allowed to exist on many of our nation's campuses. We must also recognize the fact that this woman's credibility was questioned because of her profession. But the last I checked, being raped was not part of a stripper's job description. If we are going to judge the woman for her profession, we should judge the drunken men around her as well."

Dr. Boyce Watkins has been a regular guest in many national media outlets, such as ESPN's Quite Frankly with Steven A. Smith, Hannity and Colmes, USA Today, The New York Times, and Forbes Magazine. For more information, please visit www.blackmanbush.com.
